COMMUNITY-LED

EXPERTISE

Become a Member

The Point Roberts Makers Guild is a community-led and cooperatively governed effort to grow the creative economy in Point Roberts.

At launch, our two primary programs are the 5 Mile Sq Studio Store and the Community Room. As a brand new organization, we are in the learning-by-doing process, and have created a simple membership structure to get our project launched. That being said, we anticipate iterations and changes as we learn from our first season and bring more members into the leadership and governance of the organization.

Thank you for your willingness to participate and support this project in growing from idea to community success.

Who can join?

Eligible makers, artists, or crafts persons and community members residing full-time or part-time in Point Roberts are the primary group of people eligible to apply for membership, and whose participation will be prioritized. Other people with strong connections to Point Roberts, and who live and/or work in South Delta BC or Whatcom County may be considered on a by case basis. Final decision on all memberships reside with the Steering Committee.

Currently, members who wish to sell their products in the store and staff operational shifts must affirm, through submitting their membership application, that they have the proper legal status and/or tax structures in place to receive income in the United States. Canadian citizens and others who are not able to sell products in the store are still eligible to participate in member shows and events, rent the community room, and participate in other member benefits.

Member Committees

Community Room Stewardship

The Community Room Stewardship Committee will support in managing the Community Room. This can include; preparing the room for community events or rental periods, coordinating check-in and check-outs for room rental, assisting the set up and breakdown of gallery shows, checking room inventory and identifying supply needs.

 Outreach

The Outreach Committee is in charge of making sure all makers have the proper business cards, post cards, pamphlets, and other self-produced materials available, as well as the creation and updating of makers’ bios. The bios are to be either displayed near or attached to the maker’s inventory or kept as a hand-out in a folder for customers. This committee is entrusted to obtain all the information needed for a basic bio and a maker of the artist to create the document using a template approved by the Steering Committee.

Our members are key to our success, and it is expected that all members will sign up and actively participate in (at least) one of our committees. With each of us taking responsibility for the Makers Guild, we can keep overhead costs low and grow our member benefits.

Volunteer / Workparty

The Volunteer/Workparty Committee is in charge of identifying volunteer opportunities with the Steering Committee and coordinating workparties and other opportunities to fill those volunteer needs. This is a perfect committee for members whose schedule allows for intermittent or seasonal participation, as they can either lead on particular volunteer projects personally, or help coordinate others as needed.

Makerspace / Community Studio

Phase 2 of the Guild launch includes expansion of the project to include a micro-makerspace and/or community tool library. We are looking for committee members who are eager to support project planning, development, and fundraising to begin implementing Phase 2 as soon as possible.
